Procrastinating

Baby's asleep and I feel like procrastinating on finishing this round of edits, so

Here's some random thoughts on a Monday afternoon:

1) Omg we almost have a one year old. She is doing so much, and she's so much more aware of what's going on around her. She's more and more her own tiny person instead of just a baby.

2) After only getting on a plane once in the last 12+ months, we're going to break our dry spell hardcore and I'm a little afraid. I have a convention at the end of October which will be my first time away from Lady Jr. Then we're planning on going to Germany in November (!) and Minnesota for Christmas and then Tucson in March. I'm a little afraid, not gonna lie. Lady Jr did fine on the one plane ride we've been on so far, but she was 4 months old and a whole lot less wiggly. Oh well. We'll handle it.

3) It's been autumning for a few weeks now. August was really cool and the leaves started turning that last week. Now it's 80+, of course, but half the trees are vibrant and there's a syrupy quality to the light in the mornings and evenings that I just want to drink up.

4) I feel not exhausted for the first time in 2 weeks. Lady Jr got some kind of fever around my birthday and then gave it to me, but it wasn't just a fever - it was also severe fatigue. Now it seems like Lady is coming down with it and I don't envy her one bit.

5) My editor gave me my edits a few weeks ago for books one & two and they're not nearly as bad as I'd feared/expected. I just have to cut 20k from book two which is a little daunting, not gonna lie. Also fix some character stuff in book one. But that's pretty much it and I've been riding that high all week.

6) Current pub date for book one is March 2019. So far. So soon? I have to have book one 100% done and edited and copy-edited and proofed by this February, and then it's out of my hands. Kinda crazy that by the time book one comes out, I'll be done with the other two books. Publishing is slow, but also maybe the fact that I wrote book 2 first might have something to do with it.

7) I'm all legit & shit and have a page on my agency's website. You can even read the current "query" for book one if you're bored.

8) Despite all of that, I keep having crippling flashes of impostor syndrome. Yay!

9) No, we don't know where we're moving next. Probably not for another year +.

10) Punching class is now punching + kicking class and I love it except for last week when I was exhausted/fatigued all the time. Makes me miss Crossfit and it's more close-knit, cultish society tho.

11) Aaand the baby's starting to wiggle. Till next time!

Happy early Halloween! Thanks for offering one of my fandoms this round. I have some prompts under each if you need ideas. If you have your own, though, please feel free to go with it!

For reference, my AO3 is [archiveofourown.org profile] Themistoklis.

General likes: possession, ghost hunting, Groundhog's day, found families, the ins-and-outs of how magic works in a world, clothes sharing, undercover as a couple, cuddling for warmth.

My do-not-wants: body horror, crossovers, explicit sex scenes, non-canon-level violence, self harm.

If you check out my last Trick or Treat (or even Yuletide) letter, you'll probably notice that I've copied a lot over, including some of the structure.

General stuff first!

I love all of the fandoms and characters I'm requesting, so if one section seems longer or shorter than another, it's due to how much I had to say, not how much I love the request. (And also maybe an indicator of where I was when I started running out of energy and ideas and what has gotten at least partial copy-paste treatment. Sorry, RimWorld.) They are all fandoms of my heart, and I'm excited at the possibility of receiving any of them.

Also, this letter is super long, so again, please don't feel obligated to read it all (or at all!). If you already have an idea of what you want to do from just the AO3 requests, go for it! This is all to (I hope) make it easier on you, and I am a big believer in optional details being optional. There being fic or art for my fandoms will make me happy. Everything else is icing on delicious, delicious cake.

This year I'm requesting art or fic in seven fandoms: Dragon Age (Varric), Dwarf Fortress (Cat, Dwarf, Forgotten Beast, Kobold, Necromancer, Overseer), Fallout 4 (Deacon), Naruto (Guy/Gai, Kakashi), RimWorld, The Scumthorpe Files (any), and Rubyquest (Red, Ruby). Each fandom section will include subsections as follows: short summary/promotion and links (for smaller fandoms), general fandom talk, characters-specific prompts (where applicable), trick prompts, treat prompts, art prompts. Feel free to skip straight to what you feel is most relevant. :D

Fair warning: this letter will contain spoilers, so if you have it on your "to watch/to read/to play" list and want to go into it with fresh eyes, you'll want to skip that section.

A note: I've received fic and art in the past for several of my requested fandoms, which I loved! I just want more. If you matched me on one of those, I am sure I will love whatever you make me, whether it's along the lines of the gifts I've already gotten or something entirely new.

For ease of stalking: tuesday on AO3, everysecondtuesday on tumblr

If you've made it this far, I'd like to thank you for participating in Trick or Treat. This is a delightful exchange, and I am excited for and about it.

My number one hope for my gift fic or art is that you have a good time with it, so let me emphasize again that I'm just happy that there will be another fanwork for one of these fandoms. This monster of a letter was mostly an excuse to enthuse about these fandoms, and I truly hope it doesn't put you off or make you worry about whether you can make any of the prompts work. Whatever you end up writing or drawing, I'm hoping it's something you enjoy about the fandom and have fun creating.

Have a happy Trick or Treat!

There's a nonzero chance Brenda's lawyer in the Chief AU will be Jack Raydor.

I like Gavin, but he doesn't bring anything new and exciting to the story. Everyone has done Sharon and her BFF Gavin, but I feel like we don't see Jack as much, and do we ever see him with Brenda?

It also might let me use my favorite, you-can-pry-it-from-my-cold-dead-hands headcanon (Sharon and Jack have excellent hate sex any time Jack blows through), and I am all about doing that with this fic.

But first I have to get Sharon and Brenda through this fight. Sharon doesnt want to fight and it's annoying me. Sharon! This is Brenda! She's yelling at you! Why don't you want to yell back?

Five Things Naomi Novik Said:

We took a responsibility on and I know that -- even during the darkest moments of the Board where I literally thought that the entire tech staff would quit and there would be no one to run AO3 -- that what kept people on [as volunteers] even though there wasn't any kind of good resolution to the problems, it was the inertia of not wanting to drop the ball.

Now, I read this Q&A at least ten times before it was posted, and every time I read that, I had the same thought: "Wow, wild times. I'm glad I wasn't around for that."

It didn't occur to me until tonight that yes, I was. I very much was. And I don't think I ever appreciated until this moment just how close we came.

Last week was a difficult writing week. I had a hypomanic episode, and while for some people that's a creative time it's not for me. I am glad I got done what I got done. This week - well, I have a big work project, but I'll do my best.

Done:
* Remix is POSTED YAYE. :D

New:
* short story for this 'basic income' story contest (124/5000)

Progress made:
* story, vaguely plotted and partly written, for a Coursera course I'm now WAY behind on (160/600)

Other (sigh):
* PODSA gift story (340/whatever)
* PODSA/SGA crossover which needs two scenes fixed, er, still (3439/whatever)
* PODSA mpreg (2062/whatever)
* Star Wars auction fic, two scenes left (704/1000+)
* AIRPF AU with [personal profile] rajkumari905 (3316/whatever)
* AIRPF auction fic (0/1000+)
